Michael Palmer
Michael Palmer is a Consultant Urological Surgeon based at Gartnavel General Hospital and the Western Infirmary. A native Glasgwegian, he attended Hutchesons’ Grammar School and Glasgow University. After graduating as a doctor in 1984, he moved to Merseyside where he trained in General Surgery and Urology. During his surgical training he was awarded the degree of ChM (Master of Surgery) from Liverpool University for his thesis on the urodynamic evaluation of bladder outflow obstruction. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the European Board of Urology.

Mr Palmer has specialist interests in urinary incontinence and reconstruction of the urinary tract. He has a large NHS practice in the treatment of incontinence, offering a full complement of tape and sling procedures, bulking agents and botulinum toxin injections, continent urinary diversion and cystoplasty. His reconstructive service includes treatment of urethral stricture and urinary fistula and offers post cancer surgery reconstruction and reversal of vasectomy. He also provides a reconstructive service to the regional transplant unit. He has an extensive practice in the management of bladder pain, using a variety of techniques including intravesical instillations. In addition to his clinical activities, Mr Palmer is the Programme Director for urological training in the West of Scotland and Chairman of the Specialty Training Committee. He is married with two children.
